UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was founded on 16 November 1945 for the purpose of advancing international peace and security through educational, scientific and cultural relations of the peoples of the world.

UNESCO Center for Peace, promoting the ideals of UNESCO, has been building strong alliances in the Washington, DC metro area since 2004. Major partners include Americans for UNESCO, the Frederick County Public Schools, Hood College, the Frederick Community College, the Maryland School for the Deaf, The Mercersburg Academy, and the Maryland chapter of the United Nations Association-USA.

To promote understanding of UNESCO’s mission and ideals and to translate them into programs that will help raise a new generation of Peacemakers, placing Human Dignity at the center of their activities and striving to make the culture of peace a commodity of everyday life through Education, Science, Culture and Communication.
